Our Private APNs

A private APN (Access Point Name) routes encrypted mobile data traffic between pre-configured IoT devices that contain an M2M SIM card.

After that, the SIMs connect via a resilient interconnect. Forwarding encrypted mobile data directly into the corporate network through secure IPSec tunnels.

What kinds of private APNs are available?

Shared Private APN

This is the standard APN that we use with the majority of our SIM cards, and it is shared by all of our customers. This APN is not customisable, but you can still connect to it via an IPSec VPN to communicate with your application directly without traffic going over the public internet.

This is a custom built APN that will only be used by yourself. This is fully customisable, meaning you are fully in control of the mobile data traffic, facilitating bespoke routing and content filtering.

About APN's

APN (Access Point Name) is the name given to the gateway within a Mobile Network Operator (MNO) that provides the ability for a device containing a SIM card to access an IP network such as the internet.

The vast majority of SIMs available on the market will access the internet via the MNO’s public APN. A Public APN isn’t always appropriate because it would break the IoT solution, add additional complexity or add additional cost.

Our Private APN was developed to help with these issues. It is compatible with all of our RoamFree MultiNet, Three, EE and Roam-e tariffs.

We use network virtualization to share our private APN securely with our customers. There are no set up charges for the Private APN service, just a low monthly charge if you choose to have a dedicated VPN.

Rapid Deployment

Our dedicated private APNs are typically ready for service within 2 working days (for standard solutions). SIMs on private APNs are typically ready for service within minutes of the order being placed with us.

Flexible

Multiple private APN configurations are available to meet different requirements. The service can provide internet breakout from the cloud or route all traffic to the customer to apply internet access policies.

Secure

Internet access is protected by the Cloudflare international IP network. Cloudflare DDoS protection secures websites, applications, and entire networks while ensuring the performance of legitimate traffic is not compromised.

Reliable

Private APN can support dual geographic resilient interconnects and BGP routing to the customer.

Global

Private APN can be used on SIMs almost anywhere in the world whilst retaining full control of the network traffic.
